New York State Dance Education Association (NYSDEA) in partnership with The Harkness Center for Dance Injuries (HCDI) presents a weekend workshop for teachers:

Dance Medicine for Dance Educators: Specific Concerns

This 2-day hands-on workshop is specifically designed to address dance educators’ concerns about the physical and psychological health and well-being of themselves and their students. Lectures will complement movement workshops and technique classes; topics include:

• Debunking common myths: Science vs. studio
• Teaching methods for career longevity/Keep your dancers dancing!
• Studio survival tips: Strategies for safety and injury prevention; management of dance injuries
• Precautions and training considerations for the adolescent dancer
• Causes, recognition, and prevention of dance foot and ankle injuries, with special reference to ballet and African dance
• Biopsychosocial considerations related to dance injury
• Hip hop class and injury prevention considerations
• Ballet class illuminating the American Ballet Theatre teaching approach
• African dance class
