Special Assistant Professor of Dance and Dance Education

Hofstra University’s Department of Drama and Dance is seeking an Assistant Professor of Dance to direct the Dance Education Program, and to teach in both the Dance Education and the Dance Programs. This is a one-semester position beginning September 1, 2018, with the possibility of it being extended for an additional semester. Responsibilities include administration of the Dance Education Program, advisement, recruitment, placement of the students for observations and student teaching in schools in Long Island and New York City, helping prepare students for New York State certification and serving as a liaison with the School of Education. The successful candidate will also teach 9 credits chosen from courses in dance education, student teaching supervision, jazz, tap, beginning/intermediate ballet and modern dance.
 
Requirements: 
 
A minimum of a master’s degree in dance or dance education. Full-time dance teaching experience in a public or private K-12 school, preferably with New York State Dance Certification, and experience teaching at the college level preferred. 
 
Expertise in positive classroom management; curriculum design with consideration of the 2017 New York State Learning Standards for Dance, the New York City Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in Dance, and the National Core Arts Standards in Dance; and all aspects of teaching a comprehensive, engaging, creative dance program to diverse students in PreK-12 schools.
 
Expertise to teach a selection in the following areas: jazz dance, tap dance, modern dance and beginning/intermediate levels of ballet. Also, the ability to create choreography for students to perform on fall or spring faculty performances.

We currently have approximately 100 dance majors pursuing either a BFA or BA in Dance or a BS in Education/Dance Education.
